Imagine starting your career journey in the bustling heart of Japan, spending two glorious decades immersed in its vibrant culture and dynamic markets. That was me, a dedicated sales professional, navigating through numbers (and occasionally stumbling over them), yet consistently carving out successes to hang my hat on. But here’s the twist in the tale: My secret sauce was the culturally rich and diverse environment at Elsevier — a place where diversity isn’t just a buzzword but the very fabric of our existence.

Leaping into the unknown

Believe it or not, the power of coaching and mentoring can turn your life around. One fine day, a heart-to-heart with a respected colleague at Elsevier sparked a fire in me to leap out of my comfort zone. Fast forward to 2022: I found myself in London transitioning from the familiar to the unknown, from sales to strategy, and embracing a new chapter with open arms.

The warmth and acceptance I experienced upon my arrival in our London office were nothing short of magical. My team welcomed me with open arms, celebrating my Japanese heritage and accent, and providing a nurturing ground for me to flourish. This incredible support system is a demonstration of Elsevier’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace where innovative ideas bloom from our collective differences.

Toshihide’s Elsevier journey has taken him from Japan to the UK —from sales to strategy.

A global sphere of opportunities

Elsevier has been the architect of a world where I’ve thrived across continents, collaborating with a kaleidoscope of people, customers and partners. This journey has filled my life with purposeful work and heartfelt connections with individuals who truly care.

My tenure in the London office has been a period of profound growth and learning. I’ve acquired new skills, embraced fresh perspectives, and enhanced my interactions with colleagues. This transformative experience has boosted my confidence, empowering me to tackle challenges with a broader, more inclusive lens.

So why do I feel like the world is my oyster with Elsevier? Because here, the possibilities are boundless, the opportunities are limitless, and the journey is just beginning. Join me in this adventure where diversity and inclusion aren’t just ideals but the cornerstones of our success.
